Admission to the United Daughters of the Confederacy is through invitation through the chapter. Membership is open to women sixteen and over who are lineal or collateral blood descendants of women and men who honorably served in the Army, Navy, or Civil Service of the Confederate States of America, or gave Material Aid to the Cause. Collateral ancestors are uncles or aunts, great-uncles or aunts, great-great uncles or aunts, etc. Cousins are not considered as a collateral ancestor. No applicant whose ancestor took the Oath of Allegiance before April 9, 1865, is eligible unless further proof of service nullifying the Oath is available.
